Icy Strait Cruise Information

General...
Welcome to Icy Straits, Alaska. It is the place to have in the top five on your cruise ship to see Alaska at it’s best. This is the place to come to experience authentic Native Alaskan culture, magnificent scenery and wildlife.

It is within 22 miles of Glacier National Park and it is built for cruise ship guest just like yourself. It will offer you many things to see and do, but even in summer bring warm clothes. Even with this bit of inconvenience, it will be an unforgettable experience.

Activities ...

When you arrive at Icy Straits, there is a fine array of things to keep you busy. You can spend hours watching the whales that make this there home during the summer season. See them frolic in the water as their monstrous forms glide through the ocean, see brown bears in their habitat like you’ve never seen them before, see Eagles soar and glide through the air as they hunt for food in their natural habitat.

Drink in the sight of the forest that remains unchanged for ages, walk on the beach, where you will find lots of little treasures ,such as shells and unusual shapes of gnarled drift wood. Go salmon fishing and catch your lunch, but there had better be a good crowd for lunch as these salmon are very big. Tour the village of Hoonah and drop into the restaurant there for a tasty salmon burger. Life doesn’t get better than this.

Sightseeing...
Besides the spectacular scenery you will be exposed to in Icy Straits, there is also a history that you can look into . This area has long been a home to the Tlingit people and in Hoonah you will find the site of the largest Tlingit Indian village in Alaska. Visit the Icy Straits Point’s Native Heritage Center to see the artifacts of these people and learn about their history and culture.

It is not only through the artifacts you can see this, but also through live performances. This was once the home of the world’s most productive salmon cannery, which has been restored to a living testament to the past and is worth a visit to see how things used to be.
