Lituya Bay, Alaska is a part of Glacier Bay Park and Preserve. You won’t find any people there, but what you will find is the rugged beauty of a land that has been ravaged over time . When it was discovered in 1786 by a French explorer he named it the Port of France, as it was glorious in its beauty.
This is a must see on your cruise to Alaska. Your ship will probably dock in Juneau, but you can take a day trip to Lituya Bay to see the spectacular view that awaits you .This trip can be taken by bus or by air, both of which you will find very exciting.

Lituya Bay has a bit of a history. In 1958, it was the scene of a giant Tsunami. This happened when part of the mountain broke away and fell into the sea. The wave took many lives with it and in 1980 it became part of the park. Although it is now uninhabited, it will be exciting to see where this event took place. The once barren landscape of where the mountain broke away is now covered with young growth and the bay is the home of many marine life creatures, such as whales, seals, and birds of all kinds.

When you visit Lituya Bay, you will be amazed at the life that is there in abundance - humpback whales, sea lions, sea otters, and brown bears to name a few. You will see the fjords along the outer coast. Lituya Bay is unusually beautiful, gouged out of steep mountains butting the sea. The crossbar of Lituya Bay is the filled trench of Fairweather Fault. You will find that Lituya Bay will be an unforgettable wildlife experience.
