Positioned at the head of a fiord in Western Prince William Sound, the community of Whittier in Alaska is a major port for the southeastern part of the state. With a vast quantity of freight being delivered to the port, Whittier has become a major community in Alaska. It is also a focal point for marine activity.
A feature of the community, which makes it different from the majority of communities, is the fact that much of its infrastructure has been funded by the government.
