Arrecife
The capital of the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Arrecife has plenty to offer its visitors. With its exceptional beaches, promenades and shopping opportunities, it is one of the best places in Europe to choose as your vacation destination. The natural harbour protected by reefs has been an important port since the 15 th century. The fishing fleet has always been an important part of the economy as has the production of soap. The festivals that take place here are the oldest in the region, such as the San Gines in August, which involves sailing competitions and concerts. It is also strategically located so that you can reach any part of the island from Arrecife.
Sights Visit El Castillo de San Gabriel a fort that was rebuilt in 1590 to protect the town from attacks by pirates. It was destroyed in 1590, but in the 1970's the first was reconstructed and turned into a museum. It is open from 8 a.m. to 3.p.m. Monday to Friday.
Art lovers will certainly want to visit the International Museum of Contemporary Art housed at the El Castillo de San Jose . This castle dates back to the late 1700's and is also the site of exhibitions of residential architecture of the region. If you want to know about science then visit La Casa de Los Arroyo where there is a permanent exhibit detailing the life of the scientist – Blas Cabrera Felipe.
Walk among the houses of the fishermen, which is lit at night, when you walk to El Charco de San Gines. This is a small parish church where the acoustics are absolutely amazing.
Recreation There is a long promenade running the length of the coast offering a great opportunity for you to enjoy quiet walks. The great temperatures of the island allow you to escape the cold of the northern cities and spend a holiday in paradise. As you walk a long, you will see a great diversity in nature and landscapes as well as colonies of seabirds that nest along the shore.
If you like watersports, then you have come to the right place. There is an abundance of natural facilities for windsurfing, sailing, fishing and swimming. At the 18-hole golf course, you can tee off in the midst of a volcanic location on the outskirts of the city. It doesn't matter what your skill level in golf is because you all players can manage this course while enjoying views of the Atlantic Ocean .
Reducto Beach is a very picturesque location with a park containing palm trees. There is also a monument of a wooden shipwreck here. This is a beach well suited for families. The waters are calm and there are many different facilities and restaurants where you can get a meal or a snack.
