Tourist attractions
Teite National Park This was declared a national park in 1954 and has much to offer anyone that visits here, such as an enormous volcanic crater 48 km in circumference. Out of this rises Mount Teite to a staggering 3.718 m, which makes it the highest mountain in Spain . The Park itself measures around 2000 m above sea level and in the winter the weather can turn very nasty with winter snow falls and gales of wind -so much so that the roads are sometimes closed. However, in the summer this arid landscape can reach temperatures above 40 Celsius. The only way to reach this volcano is either by foot or by cable car but it's well worth the effort to get there. On a clear day you will have breathtaking views of the Grand Canary , La Gomera and El Hierro. It is the most visited tourist attraction on the island and one that should be added to everyone's itinerary.
Loro Parque Whether you are young or old the Loro Parque will fascinate you. This park, which was originally called Parrot Park , is now Tenerife 's second biggest attraction. It is home to a collection of over 300 species of parrots, a fantastic sea lion show, a dolphin show, a parrot show, an aquarium shark tunnel, guerrillas and chimpanzees, tigers, jaguars, flamingos, alligators, tortoises, an Orchid House, a Gambian market, a cinema and the world's largest Penguinarium with an imitation Antarctic climate where 12 tons of snow falls every day. The whole family can enjoy this place, as they is so much to see and do.
Barranco del Infierno Don't let the name Hell's Gorge fool you into thinking that this is a place not worth seeing because you will certainly miss out on some really spectacular scenery. This lush green ravine is an oasis in the harsh and arid south Tenerife landscape and it is the only location where you will find natural running water. This place is a paradise for anybody that wishes to walk for a while and there is a track around the entire area, which only takes 2 1/2 hours to walk. It is advisable to start your walk in the morning before the midday sun reaches its peak. You will find that many parts of the walk will take you into deep ravines that sometimes grow quite dark, but prove to be very cool.
