La Coruna Cruises

Cruises
You will find La Coruna located in the northwest of Spain close to the border with Portugal . It is a land of seamen and countrymen, but yet has become a city of the future and is one of the most exciting places to spend your vacation. It has a great mixture of relaxation and high standards of cultural activities.

When you visit La Coruna 's old center it is definitely worth the effort to go there. This is a place that contains most of the historical monuments that was built before the 19th century with buildings that date back on the modernist period. You will also find this city makes an ideal base for hiking in some of the most spectacular scenery. The weather here brings sunny days and balmy nights during the summer and cold in the winter.

Tourist Attractions

Ancient Ruins of La Coruna

Cruises

To view some of this city's history, take a walk through the Plazuela de Santa Barbara . Here you will find a tiny shaded plaza surrounded by old houses and the high walls of the Santa Barbara convent. The Jardin de San Carlos is near the Casa de la Cultura and dates back to1843. This is a beautiful garden that grew on the site of an old fortress that once guarded the harbor and is the burial site of Gen. Sir John Moore who fought unsuccessfully against Napoleon troops.

Iglesia de Santa Maria del Campo is a church with elaborate carved west doors dating back to the 13 th century and below its rose window you will find a Gothic portal of the same century with the tympanum carved with a scene showing the Adoration of the Magi. These are only a few of the ancient places that can be seen in this beautiful part of the world.

Beaches
There are a wide variety of beaches to choose from as La Coruna is the second largest port in Spain . The most popular by far is the Riazor Beach and although it is found in Santa Cristina it is only about 5 km away and there is a steamer service that will take you there and back. There are many beaches in La Coruna , which makes it a very popular resort. This beach is crowded during the months of July and August whereas Santa Cristina is less crowded as it is out of town. It is a place of fun in the sun and has as many water sports that you can think of. All of this is bathed in beautiful sunshine during the days and a breeze from the ocean at night.
