Costa Atlantica Description

Costa Alantica

Costa Alantica welcomes you onboard for a cruise of a lifetime and what a cruise it will be! As soon as you step on the decks of the Alantica, you get a feel for what’s in store for you on this journey. With 12 passenger decks and a crew of 920, this ship has no problem fitting the bill for loads of fun. You are struck by the elements of Italy’s classic Roman, Baroque and the Renaissance era. The high energy atmosphere is tempered by the Carrara Marble and Byzantine mosaics.

The main feature is the 10-deck atrium with it’s striking colours and glass elevators and this is just the beginning of the surprises this ship has to offer. There are mini atriums scattered throughout the ship. The public areas have a bright and open feeling. Another eye catcher is the sweeping stairs that join two decks, but the most dramatic of all the staircases is the one that descends into Dante’s Disco. This staircase sweeps around the main atrium and is fashioned out of glass. A glance downward as you descend is like looking off a 10 story building. Only two languages are used for announcements on this ship - Italian and English.

Accommodations

There will be no trouble finding a suite that suits your budget on this ship. The Alantica has1057 suites available in total - 58 suites with balconies, 620 with balconies and an ocean view, 167 with an ocean view but no balconies and 212 inside cabins. All cabins are bright and spacious and done in pastels of green and orange. The inside cabins take up 22 percent of the overall accommodations and measure 162 square feet. There are 678 suites with balconies of which 58 suites range from Grand suites, which measure 620 square feet to Panoramic and Ocean view suites which measure 360 square feet. All have very comfortable deck furniture and some have verandas that measure 210 square feet. There are four cabins that are handicapped accessible.

You will find that most of the rooms have twin beds that easily convert to queen size. IN addition all the rooms have telephones, hair dryers and safety deposit boxes. The bathrooms have showers and a basket of toiletries. The cabins have a well stocked bar that is used on the honour system, but is expensive, and TV’s that have 14 channels on which you can order pay for view movies.

For the suites there are a few extras, such as whirlpool tubs, terry cloth robes and slippers. When you board you will be treated to sparkling wine and cold canapés and enjoy personal butler service. Electrical power in the cabins is 220, but it inconveniently located so it’s a good idea to take an extension cord with you.

Dining

Start your day by dropping by Botticellis for breakfast. This restaurant serves a buffet breakfast at several different stations. You may find one that serves cereal, another that serves the traditional eggs, bacon and sausage and yet another that serves omelettes. However, you won’t find much that is served on a cooked to order basis. Botticelli also serves lunch and a casual dinner.

The high ranking restaurant on this ship is the two deck Tiziano Restaurant. This serves all three meals at fixed settings. The seating ranges from two to four people, but There are tables that can handle up to eight or more people. At lunch time, there are no fixed settings, but in the evening in this restaurant still holds to formal eating times.

Another alternative is the Ristorante Club Alantica. This restaurant has a seating capacity of 158 people and is a reservation only restaurant. You can choose between Tuscan Steak or the fixed menu that is provided. There is a $20.00 service charge and a $3.00 gratuity. If you’re planning on eating in this restaurant, it is wise to book your dinner seats early in your trip. Of course if you want to eat in your room, there is a 24 hour room service available and there are children’s menu offered in all dining places.

Entertainment

The Altantica has a huge number of lounges, but the ones that stand out are the Caffe Florian, Dante’s Disco and the Coral Lounge. The Florain is a nice meeting place for a drink or a cup of coffee and is a very intimate and cosy place to be. The Coral Lounge is a performance lounge and well worth the visit, evoking the feeling of being at the bottom of the sea. Dante’s will thrill you to the bone as you enter above the dance floor that lays below and to add to it’s intrigue smoke pours onto the floor to make you feel like your descending into Hades itself. The ship also has a casino where you can go to try your luck.

Another alternative for entertainment is the Caruso Theatre, which is a three deck theatre. This is the ship’s main show lounge. Here you will see individual performers, variety shows and two major productions. The best entertainment you can find is put on by the ships staff they can put on as many as two to three contests a day in addition to the board games that are available.

In the evening you won’t want to miss Theme Games, such as Mediterranean Night, where there are as many as four games and a show or Fiesta Italian where you experience an Italian street festival at sea. The ultimate event is the Roman Bacchanal where passengers wear bed sheets for togas (provided by the crew) and Caesar ( the Captain) rules over the wackiest talent show you have ever witnessed. If the children are with you then there are things for them to keep busy such as a dedicated children’s centre, an outdoor children’s play area, a teen centre, teen’s programs, a children’s pool, and babysitters available when you need them.

This ship’s top three sections are devoted to fitness so there is no need to get out of shape on this cruise. They also provide a pool, a sauna, a steam room, a Jacuzzi, cardio equipment and a jogging track. In addition to all of this you will also find volleyball and basketball and much more to keep you occupied.
