When you board the Fortuna you are boarding the biggest ship in this fleet and the biggest ship that has been built for this market. So be prepared for a cruise that will be unforgettable and will be talked about long after you have returned home. This is a cruise that has a pan European experience mixed with American style comforts. Every room on board is named after a sister ship and the rooms are decorated in a bit of elegance with a whimsical flair. This ship is more lively in texture and colour than most traditional European ships. You will find a high balcony ratio and alternative restaurants for dining which all adds to the excitement of a cruise. This ship has 13 decks and a friendly crew of 1068.
Accommodations
This ship has 1358 accommodations to choose from, so it should not be difficult to find something to suit anyone’s budget. There are 58 suites with balconies, 464 suites with balconies and an ocean view, 321 with an ocean view but no balconies and 501 inside cabins.
The size of the accommodations are the basic size. There is a queen bed that converts to two twin size beds if needed, one chair, a desk and a mini fridge. Standard cabins do have a veranda and all cabins feature a shower with bathroom. Mini suites feature a pull-out couch, and the same size bathrooms. Some suites have extra seating areas, marble bathrooms with whirlpool baths, and a double wide balcony.
Dining
Start your day at the Restaurant Buffet Colombo 1954. Here you can enjoy cold cuts, cheese and the usual breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and coffee or have an omelette made to order. You do have alternatives to the buffet in other restaurants where you can order off the menu or have made to order breakfast.
At lunch time you can dine in the restaurant, where you will find traditional elegance as you dine on your meal. You might want to try the buffet or step outside to the outdoor grill where you can get burgers and fries or grilled chicken. You can enjoy lunch at any of the restaurants on the Fortuna, but you may find that Michelangelo 1965 will have the added feature of having the most spectacular scenery you will ever witness as you sail across the ocean from port to port.
Dinner is the big event of the day on this ship. It is usually a formal style meal that can last as long as three hours. If you’re looking for romance to your evening then Club Grand Conte 1927 is the place to be. Here you will enjoy good food and the mood of the restaurant is perfect for an evening alone. You can listen to the keys of the piano as the pianist sets the mood through the evening, but be prepared to pay a fee of 23 Euro service charge. You can also get 24 hour room service but the selection is very limited.
Entertainment
You will not be disappointed with the evening venue on this cruise. You will be intrigued by the public rooms such as the Conte di Savoia 1932 Grand Bar, which is a terrific place to spend the evening dancing as it is focused around a huge dance floor. You can also try the Classico Roma 1926 Bar for after dinner drinks.
If you decide to try your luck at the casino then you should know that the machines take Euros and there is no bank machine on the ship. Some people can get an advance on their credit cards which is paid at the end of the cruise. It is a small casino by some standards but big enough to have a good time.
If you are inclined to visit the library, then you may be a little disappointed as the stock of books are lacking. So the best thing would be to bring your own if you’re an avid reader.
You will find many places to shop on this floating hotel. There are duty free shops and many places that take care of your every day needs plus souvenirs. You may also find the Costa Atrium a find place to meet and greet people and don’t miss the models of every ship in the fleet that hangs from the ceiling.
The Fortuna has four pools for your enjoyment, plus a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, fitness centre. For the children, two of the pools have water slides which old and young can enjoy and there is also a dedicated water pool for the little ones. The family programs also have set programs for children and a babysitter when you need it.
