Costa Mediterranea Description

Costa Mediterranea

Welcome to the Italian dream. The CostaMediterranea. This ship leads the pack in its Italian exuberance. The staff meet you with an Italian greeting, the entertainment is full of gusto and this is an excellent choice if you want a cruise with that European flavour. You won’t find anything ordinary or understated about this ship and it’s all waiting for you to sail into the sunset for an unforgettable journey.

Here you will see inventive designs and reinvented designs from the 17th and 18th century Italian palaces. The 12 passenger decks will become a constant source of discovery as you board this ship, which at times will give you the impression you are traveling inside a theme park. The only regime you will find here is with the seating at the dining tables. The rest is all consuming fun. In the winter, this ship sails to the Caribbean and in the summer months its home is Venice for Eastern Mediterranean voyages.

Accommodations

This wonderful ship boasts a total of 1,057 cabins, of which 678 have balconies. The standard outside cabins with balconies have a queen bed that can convert to twin beds when necessary. They measure 210 square feet and they feature dressing tables, hair dryers that work and TV. 71 of the 212 inside cabins have a third and fourth bed that is pulled down from the ceiling and these cabins measure160 square feet. You will find that closet space is not a problem here. There are also 8 handicapped accessible bathrooms.

Bathrooms have showers only and toiletries are not provided, such as soaps or lotions. However, the division between the balconies extends out further than the normal to give people more privacy.

The suites are especially attractive and very charming. They come in three sizes which are 352 to 650 square feet including veranda. The next step up is the Panorama Suite, which offers a larger living room. Then there is the ultimate in cruising called the Grand Suite, which has lots of extras such as separate living and sleeping quarters, granite bathrooms with a Jacuzzi tub and double sinks, teak furniture which also includes the lounge chairs, butler service, sparkling wine and many other amenities.

Dining

Imagine dining in a restaurant that is fashioned after a 18th century palazzo. That’s what’s in store for you when you dine at the Restaurant degli Argentieri. This splendid room will take you back in time. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with two seating schedules. Here you will experience the late dinners of the Europeans. Food is served with a different theme of Italy on a nightly basis. There are low fat menus as well as low carb and vegetarian is always available.

Another alternative for dining is the Club Medusa. Here you will find superb appetizers such as grilled sea scallop or shrimp pie. There is a $23.00 per person charge per night at this restaurant. If you’re looking for buffet, try the sprawling Perla Del Lago Restaurant, where there are numerous stations that offer different kinds of food. The ship does have 24 hour room service, but the choices are limited to soups, salads and sandwiches. However, suite guest may order from the full menu.

Entertainment

You can dance to the romantic music of piano tunes in the Piazza Casanova Bar or take in an opera or production shows in the main theatre. This theatre is something in itself and well worth the time to visit it. It will transport you to Egypt with its pharaohs and pyramids. The motif used here came right from the murals of a Roman Palace.

The Maschera d’Argento is the place to be and what a place it is with its walls that soar ten decks above creating a fabulous work of art from every angle. It is truly a wondrous place. This is the place to see something new every time you enter the room.

For those quite moments, you’ll find a chapel with beautiful stained glass windows. You will also find a library and internet café where you can find some quite moments. There is also a casino and lots of places to shop for the avid shopper. There are two formal nights on this ship and women wear party dresses and glitter gowns, while men prefer a dark suit or tux, which can be rented onboard the ship.

The children are certainly not left out on this ship as they have a children’s centre that all kids enjoy. There are programs to keep the children busy and both you and the kids can take advantage of the pools that are available. There are steam rooms, saunas, a fitness centre, a jogging track, a beauty salon, a spa and anything else you could think of that you would need on a cruise such as this gala event.
