The name of this ship belies the people that it serves. Although romance is certainly found on this ship you will also find families from all nationalities. The Romantica is quite inventive at using the space it has to entertain the children that accompany their parents on a cruise. Guests enjoy exploring the 10 passenger decks of this wonderful ship and your cruise will be made wonderful with the 610 crew members there waiting to see to your every need. You will love the size and the style of this ship from the moment you go aboard.
Accommodations
The cabins on the Costa Romantica are nothing short of lovely. They are identical in size and layout. On the Romantica, there is a total of 678 cabins. 10 are suites with balconies, 24 are suites with no balconies, 428 have ocean views but no balconies and there are 216 inside cabins. The outside cabins have very generous ocean view windows. All cabins have queen size beds that can convert to two twins when necessary, night tables, drawers, vanity, good lighting, a chair and ottoman, a mini fridge and TV.
The bathrooms are splendidly done in a Milanese style with a shower and vanity. The lighting is good, but the doors leading to and from the bathroom are somewhat small. The only thing that is provided is soap and shower gel. There are no face cloths or towels provided so you have to bring your own.
It will be worth while checking into the panoramic suites. Here the bedroom sits above the living room and there are floor to ceiling windows for a beautiful view. 10 of the cabins have railings that are solid. The bathrooms contain Jacuzzi tubs and are lager than in other cabins. Two of the interior cabins have beds that can be pulled down from the ceiling. There are also handicapped cabins in a variety of price ranges.
Dining
Dining is a delightful experience on this ship. The Botticelli Restaurant is the main dining area for this ship. Here the three sides of this room are glass and will give you a great view of the ocean as you sail. The seating in this room is usually for 8, but two and four diner tables can be found, though there are not many of these. The floors are marble, which adds to the luxury of this liner. They serve breakfast each morning ,but only eggs can be cooked to order. The rest is buffet.
Lunch is served from a menu and there is at least one vegetarian meal served at all three meals Lunch consist of soups, salads, pastas, cheeses and desserts. At dinner, stewards take all orders for all courses. Although the portions served are not overwhelming, they are not skimpy either. It would take the same amount of time if you order a six meal course or a two meal course as the waiters have to wait for each course to be served. You won’t be disappointed in the quality of the meals.
There are a few alternatives for dining as well. The ll Giardino is a buffet restaurant and the room is divided into two areas with wicker furniture that gives it an elegant touch. Children are encouraged to sit with other children and form friendships. Outside this Restaurant there is another seating area called La Terrazza. This place is shaded by an sail-like awning. Breakfast here is like the one served in the main restaurant - buffet for the main course and eggs cooked to order. On La Terrazza you can order hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and French fries.
Room device is offered 24 hours a day and there is a free continental breakfast. However, at other times of the day you will be limited to soup, sandwiches and salads which will cost you 2 Euros cover charge.
Entertainment
You will find the usual games that are on any cruise ship on the Romantica but you can also spend an evening at the Opera Theatre. Here you will see a resident song and dance troupe, singers, magicians and contortionist. You can also drop by the Macedonian to hear musical instruments played, or at the Piazza you’ll find a pianist playing soft music. Drinks are served at the Capri Bar, the Tango bar, the Grand Bar and many other hideaways that you can find on this exciting ship. The children will enjoy the video arcade where it will cost about .48 cents to play a game.
Enjoy an evening at the Excelsior Casino. This casino is small, but not very crowded. They have slot machines and tables that you can try your luck at. If this is not to your taste, then you can try ballroom dancing at the Tango ballroom.
This ship has two swimming pools - one where children are not allowed and another where they are welcomed. There are also four hot tubs. The Gym has lots of exercise machines where you can keep fit while you are on your cruise. Here you overlook the sea through glass windows while you do your workout.
The Romantica stands out in accommodating children and families. There are programs for children of different ages from morning until night and the counsellors do a good job doing it. Although the children’s room is small, the crew overrides this by having programs in other rooms during the quite time and it seems to work wonderfully well.
