It doesn’t matter what age you are, you are bound to enjoy the cruise you will take on this fabulous . Either with the family or the grandchildren, you are sure to be a hero in their eyes as the magic of this ship unfolds. Otherwise known as The Big Red Boat, the Magic entered the Disney fleet in 1998 and has11 passenger decks for you and your family to explore the possibilities of having a good time is assured. With the combination of modern technology inside and the sleek, classic look of earlier liners on the outside this is a winning ship.
This ship appeals to families including adults. There are enough activities for all ages to satisfy the whole spectrum of cruise travelers. This ship has universal appeal as an elegant cruise ship. The décor of this ship is refined and understated and is truly designed for everyone - not just the kids or those that are fanatics about Disney.
Accommodations
Disney Magic has a total of 877 accommodations of which 22 are suites with balconies, 362 have balconies and an ocean view, 237 have no balconies but an ocean view and 256 are inside cabins. They are all designed with comfort in mind and the staterooms are among the most elegant and roomiest at sea. They are placid and comfortable havens of quietness that seems to work for all ages.
The standard cabins on this ship could be called mini-suites on any other ship with each one having its own sleeping and living rooms. They have twin beds that can be turned into queens when necessary and the bedroom area is divided from the living room by a curtain. There is also a sofa that can turn into another bed and many of these cabins have berths that can be pulled down from the ceiling. A family of five can also get a family stateroom which is a little larger and have a Murphy bed.
You will find plenty of storage in these rooms with a six drawer chest and eight drawers in a deep desk dressing table. Some also have steamer trunks which really come in handy for kids’ clothes. You will also find shelves above the TV desk.
The décor in these rooms is elegant and warm as are the glass balcony doors. There is a child proof lock provided and only the centre section opens. The selections on the TV are the most comprehensive of any liner of today.
The bathrooms are divided into a bath and a half, which is a real plus on any cruise. One part has a toilet and sink while the other has a shallow tub, shower and sink. They are decorated in crisp white tiles with a deep blue accent. Bathroom amenities are fairly basic limited to soap, shampoo and lotion. The handicap accessible rooms are huge with lots of floor space. They have huge verandas about 30 feet long. Inside cabins are much like the outside ones and they have the same amenities.
The staterooms are located on Deck 5 and are very spacious so if you’re considering an inside but would enjoy the light of day, then these would be your best choice.
All suites are located on Deck 8. These range from one bedrooms to two Royal Suites, of which one has a baby grand piano. These also come complete with a concierge team, more fancy design elements and full length whirlpool tubs. The amenities greatly improve in these suites with such added comforts as slippers and fluffy robes.
Dining
Magic offers three main dining rooms and every passenger gets to dine in them at least twice during their voyage. You will be seated at the same dining table each time with the same people and servers which gives you the opportunity to form friendships. There are earlier dining times to cater to the children, but there are also later ones so you can plan accordingly.
Lumiere’s is the fanciest of all the dining rooms. It is superb with its Art Deco Décor and its French inspired menus. This room starts out as a plain black and white décor, but changes through the meal until at the end the whole room is lit up by Disney characters. It is fabulous to watch.
Then there is Parrot Cay, which is a vibrant market place themed dining room. Here you can enjoy the waiters as they sing and get the children to join in. Don’t be surprised when they get the kids up and start dancing around the room. This restaurant is also available for breakfast and lunch.
With all the restaurants on this ship, watch out for theme nights such as Pirates in the Caribbean or the Captains Gala Night. The rotation of your dining rooms ensures that you get a different view every night and are served the freshest of foods possible. All food is made fresh onboard the ship. There is an endless supply of fresh fruits and salads and with each meal you can find a variety of seafood, meats, pastas and desserts.
The Topsiders Restaurant is more casual and laid back. Here you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. You may find the indoor layout a bit cramped, but the food is still excellent. There are two fast food restaurants and this proves to be a plus with kids as they can eat while they are in their swimsuits. Pluto’s Doghouse serves burgers, fries, hot dogs and pizza.
For those that would like a night out without the kids a $10..00 surcharge will get you into Palo, which is an adult only fine dining bistro. This is a good opportunity to take advantage of the babysitting services available or some of the programs that are run for kids on Magic. Palo is an intimate restaurant decorated with handmade glass. You can dine on a wonderful Italian/Mediterranean cuisine that rivals that of any upscale restaurant anywhere. The 24 hour room service is fast and efficient and is always a good alternative for those that need a snack.
Entertainment
The Pirates and the Caribbean Parties are the highlight of this cruise and attended by all ages. No one will leave these parties until the lights are out. You’ll wear red bandanas and Captain Hook hats to add to the fun of the evening. Pirates will rappel down over the stacks and fly over the balconies while everyone dances. This is an exhilarating time and loads of fun can be had by all the family.
There are several productions onboard such as Hercules the Musical, Disney Dreams and the Golden Mickey’s. You will find them perfectly executed and intricately elaborate. In addition, there are many more games and plays to see. Magic offers shuffleboard, golf chipping and putting contest, pool games, shopping, and toad races. There is family karaoke and family games to be enjoyed by all.
In the evening , you can attend one of the adults’ shows. These shows are well within the bounds of decency and enjoyed by all who wish to attend. The Rockin’ Bar D turns into a dance room if you would like to take a turn around the floor.
There are three adult daytime programs, such as the Navigator Series, The Disney Behind The Scenes and the Art of Entertaining Series -all of which comes with a $12.00 charge.
The Magic boasts three swimming pools and there is one for kids only, with Quiet Cove being for adults only. There is basketball, volleyball, Ping Pong, and a full circuit jogging track. There is a spa and beauty salon and this is only a portion of what this exciting ship has to offer all those that come onboard.
