Formally known as the Nordic Empress, the Empress of the Seas has been given a total makeover. While the entire ship has received some work, the public rooms have received the bulk of the attention. A new high society lounge was added, in addition to various updates the several eateries found on board. Many of the dining areas were expanded and several new eateries were added. Royal Caribbean cruise lines typically appeals to those people aged 30-40. However, Empress of the Seas typically appeals to people older in age simply because some of the entertainment features found on other cruise ships are not found on this one.
While on board, passengers can expect to feel comfortable as they dress casually. However, there are two nights during the week where they have a chance to dress up and step out on the town. During the formal nights, the men are expected to wear tuxedos and the women evening gowns. At other times during the week passengers are expected to where “smart” casual clothes.
Accommodations
Cabins on board the Empress of the Seas are small and often lack the presence of balconies as found on other cruise ships belonging to Royal Caribbean. The Junior Suite measures about 194 square feet. All cabins come equipped with the standard amenities – phones, hairdryers, toiletries, and televisions. Each television set comes with pre-viewed movies. There are handicap-accessible staterooms available on the Empress of the Seas as well.
Entertainment
Like any other cruise ship Empress of the Seas offers many traditional day time activities such as arts and crafts, games and so on. During the night passengers can step out and do some dancing at one of the many nighttime bars located throughout the ship. People wishing to try their luck can visit the on board Casino. The theatre offers enough seating for 722 people for their many comedy shows. All seats are comfy and cozy, so you can feel right at home.
While on board you can stay fit by visiting one of the two pools, or one of the three whirlpools. Located above the pool area is the fitness center and spa. For $100 you can get a full-body massage or facial at one of the salons.
While the ship is small and quarters are cramped there is still room for children to take part in the daily activities that the cruise ship provides. There are free activities as well as planned activities that parents can enrol their children in daily. One of the main features is the slide that snakes across the ceiling – the children love navigating their way through the twists and turns. There is something for everyone on board the Empress of the Seas.
