Choose to take in as much or as little as you please so that you return home refreshed and relaxed. The crew are friendly and provide you with the pampering you expect on a cruise. The size of the cabins is certainly not reflected in the price with the outstanding number of mid priced rooms available. Added to the great pools, cruising on this ship is an overall wonderful experience.
Accommodations
The cabins and suites of the Massden are warm and appealing, no matter which one you choose. The penthouse is the ultimate in accommodations with its own kitchen area, a dining room table and marble bathroom. The mini-suites each have their own TV, mini bar, separate sitting area and whirlpool bath. They also boats many amenities that you usually don’t find on a cruise and they each have a private veranda. If you choose a suite, you will also get an invitation to the Captain’s Dinner, which is an elaborate gourmet meal.
The standard inside and outside cabins are also quite roomy with ample storage space. The outside cabins have showers in the bathrooms, while the inside cabins have tubs only. You don’t have to bring your hair dryer as there is one provided as well as the usual array of bathroom amenities. Six of the cabins are designed for passengers with physical challenges and they are conveniently located near the elevators.
Dining
The exceptional lighting and floor to ceiling windows of the Rotterdam Dining Room assure you of exquisite views while you dine here. Breakfast and lunch feature open seating and there is assigned seating for the two dinner sittings. Buffet is the name of the game at the Lido Café, which also serves tea and coffee round the clock. The meals are more American in nature with plenty of meat selections, but there are theme nights when you can sample foods from other parts of the world. The menu has selections for those watching their figures as well as selections for those with queasy stomachs.
The Pinnacle Grill is the alternative restaurant at which reservations are needed and there is a $20 charge per person. However, the quality of food is such that you won’t mind paying the extra cost.
A Dutch High Tea takes place once per cruise in the Rotterdam and 24-hour room service is available.
Entertainment
Take in a show in the Rembrandt Lounge, which can seat 600 passengers. The upper level of this venue features comfy chairs, something that is rare on cruise ships. During the day you can take in a lecture or take part in a contest. Take in the views from the Crows Nest Lounge or join the gang at the Ocean Bar for cocktails or pre-dinner drinks. The Explorer’s Lounge holds designer coffee, chocolates and cognacs from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Check out a book from the Leyden Library or play a game of cards in the card room. You can keep in touch with home at the Internet Café, but the charge is 75 cents an hour. The Crow’s nest is the place to be for karaoke, 50’s music, Irish Pub Night and other themes throughout the cruise. There is also a casino, where you can play the slot machines or the tables.
Enjoy the view from the fitness room with its wide range of exercise equipment. Take an aerobics class. Play a game of volleyball or pamper yourself in the spa. Tennis and basketball are available on the sports deck. With two pools and three whirlpools, you can swim or relax in the water or even spend time sunning yourself on deck. If you have a VCR in your cabin, the video library has more than 600 titles for you to choose from.
There are programs in place for children, but there is no dedicated space. It is simply a room with tables and chairs and the programs consist of crafts. There are onshore excursions specifically for the children, however, leaving the parents free to engage in other activities. These do depend on the number of children that book the excursions, such as kayaking in the Caribbean.
