When you step aboard the Mercury, your cruise begins by being greeted by the friendliest staff that you’ll find anywhere. Your bags will be whisked out of your hands and replaced by a glass of wine as you’re shown to your cabin or suite. You will probably spend some time exploring the 10 passenger decks and enjoying the warmth that everyone of the 909 crew members will give you as they serve your every need . Mercury also offers a pool, sauna, steam room, a full service spa, beauty salon and a Jacuzzi so go ahead and pamper yourself. After you’re finished with this, you can enjoy one of the many fitness rooms that are offered or jog around the track that’s available.
Accommodations
Mercury boasts 920 suites and either one is there for the choosing. There are 50 suites with balconies, 140 with an ocean view and balconies, 425 with an ocean view but no balconies and 305 inside suites so you can pick your choice for which one would make you more comfortable. The sky deck has much larger verandas than the rest, but all are comfortable and will take you through your cruise in style. With the more expensive suites you can have your own butler and why not when you’re on a cruise such as this?
All accommodations have twin beds that covert to queen size when necessary. The standard outside accommodations measure 172 square feet, not including the veranda for those that have them, but you may find a lack of space provided in surface space. This leaves little room on the night tables for anything but magazines.
All cabins come with a seating area, which is expanded in the suites, a table, a TV, and a well stocked fridge. However, check the prices before you indulge. There is also a safe for any valuables. Oceanview rooms come with VCR’s, a tape library, and an interactive system on the TV.
The bathrooms are large in Mercury with lots of light and storage space, roomy showers and big fluffy towels, soap, bath soap and wall mounted places for lotions and other toiletries. In suites the lotion is supplied as well as a full array of bath supplies.
Dining
The Manhattan restaurant offers you delightful dining. It is located at the aft of the ship and has a two deck tier of windows overlooking the stern and windows on each side which are very impressive. If you take the stairway down to the lower deck, you will feel like you are an Oscar winner while descending the stairs.
Mercury offers many seating options which range from just two of you to a table of ten. The Manhattan offers open seating for breakfast and lunch as does the Palm Springs Café, which can be found on the Resort deck and has proven to be a very popular place. The Manhattan offers made to order meals with impeccable service, while the Café offers lunch with themes, such as Mexican, Italian or Asian. If you can’t find anything to tickle your palette, then maybe a pizza would suffice. If you feel like staying in your suite, then it will be good to know that there is 24 hour room service available.
Entertainment
Having fun on the Mercury is a given when you can visit the well stocked casino and try your luck at one of the many tables or slot machines that you’ll find there. If you’re not in the mood for this, then try the Celebrity Theatre, which is more like Carnegie Hall than a theatre. With it’s unobstructed seating and balcony boxes, this theatre is certainly a winner. Here you can view performances of comedians, soloist and much more for your entertainment.
There are also bands around the ship that will play anything from classical to rock and roll, so it won’t be hard finding the kind of music you like. You will also find many board games, dance lessons, different kinds of contest, and of course there will be bingo. This is only a portion of what is offered on this ship and it is all there to make your cruise as memorable as a cruise can get.
