The Norwegian Crown has been through a lot of owners in the past, but she is now returned to her original owner and named after a multi million refurbishing job done in 2003. This added three new restaurants for passengers to enjoy. Even her outside was redone to give her a look of a first class hotel that is very elegant and still comfortable and casual with glittering accents that are in no way glitzy. You will love exploring her 9 decks with each holding secret places of their own.
Accommodations
The Crown has a total of 539 accommodations. Of these 16 are Suites with balconies, 78 Suites with no balconies, 368 ocean view with no balconies and 147 inside cabins, which gives you much to choose from to suit your taste and your budget. With a crew of 950, there will be no problem seeing to your needs or pampering you like you have never been pampered before.
This ship was built with long cruises in mind as you will see in the new suites on the Penthouse deck. The Penthouse has huge amounts of closet space even in the smallest cabins. Cabins measure a minimum of 165 square feet, but many outside cabins have portholes rather than windows. 50% of the cabins view is obstructed by lifeboats.
With the standard cabins amenities include safes, direct dial phones, piped in music and satellite TV. Superior deluxe suites feature bay windows and electrical awnings, marble bathrooms with whirlpool tubs, robes and a sitting area. The Deluxe Penthouse and Penthouse suites have balconies and VCR’s as well and there are four suites that are for handicapped.
Dining
When it comes to dining the Le Bistro seats 70 guests. This room is decorated in coral, green and gold colours. There is also the Pasta Café and the Asian themed restaurant called Chopsticks. The Pasta Café seats 40 and has been decorated in the modern Italian influences. You will be happy to sit at the blue granite bar top while you sip on your favourite beverage and watch the chef prepare your meals.
The Seven Continents Dining room carries on the decoration of the ship by being made of the stained glass and the metallic accents mostly seen in its ceiling décor. This décor creates a feeling of bold elegance but the sounds in the room are compromised. You may find it a little noisy to keep a conversation going at a large table. The service is excellent and the quality of food is superb. You can start your day with breakfast at the Yacht Club, where you will find waiters waiting to carry your tray to the table.
The Top of The Crown is this ship’s most striking enhancement with its new bar topped with blue-granite. This presents an open space with its chairs and tables having been removed and replaced by pull-up tables that have been attached to the railing that circles the room.
The Monte Carlo casino is smaller and more intimate. but very tastefully done with glass walls all around. The upholstery and carpet have been replaced by a bright gold and maroon. You can still find slots, card tables and games there, but there are no dice tables.
The Stardust Lounge is the Crown’s main showroom with no obstructed seating. It has an elevated orchestral platform and a floor level dance floor. Here you can see production shows, magic shows, comics, singers and so on. You can also listen to a lounge pianist and an instrumental combo.
You will find a pool, with a full service spa at Mandara‘s, where you will find 9 treatment rooms , saunas, group fitness classes, weight machines, free weights and cardio equipment. There are elevators, ATM machines, a beauty salon, duty free shops for the avid shopper and dry cleaning.
Family
For families, group sitting is available for children 2 to 12 for a fee. There is no private babysitting on this ship.
Dress
On the Crown you can dress as you please and casual attire is acceptable morning, noon or night. However, you shouldn’t try to dine in cut offs or blur jeans in the evening as that would be unacceptable. There is one formal night on every cruise. Your account will be billed a $10.00 additional fee per person every day. This covers all tipping so you won’t have to worry about tipping anywhere on the ship.
