Norwegian Jewel Description

Norwegian Jewel

You are in for a treat when you cruise on this multifaceted ship called the Norwegian Jewel. It will give you a cruise like no other. Once again the Norwegian cruises show off their Freestyle Cruising methods. This is the closest you will ever get to a land based vacation, but you’ll enjoy it on the high seas. You will find lots of things that sparkle about this ship such as the 1185 crew members, the great dining options , beautiful accommodations and a very impressive fitness centre. There are quiet places to read a book and many places to enjoy the splendid views. The Jewel has 15 decks for you to explore where you can find different things on each of them that will delight you.

Accommodations

The Jewel carries 1188 accommodations for its guest of which 178 are suites with balconies. There are 362 with balconies and an ocean view, 243 with an ocean view, but no balconies and 405 inside. The Jewel offers a tremendous variety of living quarters from inside cabins to luxurious villas. You will find internet access in all cabins, TV with a good selection of channels, and many more amenities.

The suites and penthouses are on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11 decks and also on the 14th deck. These measure 272 square feet and up. They feature glass doors with private balconies. Most of these wonderful suites have queen size beds with a separate living quarters with a dining room table. They also have a bathtub and shower and concierge service, while ocean view Staterooms on decks 8, 9 and 10 measure from 200 to 205 square feet, offer two chairs on a private balcony. ocean view staterooms on decks 4, 5 and 8 measure 150 to 161 square feet. They have either a picture window or porthole.

In all cabins you will find a tropical theme in the décor. In some you will find twin beds that can convert to queen with space under the beds for storage. Closet space is ample to take care of your needs The bathrooms are well-designed with shell shade lamps and sea foam green tile. There is great shelf space and the shower and toilet area are separated. Just remember that two or three of these cabins can be booked as they are interconnecting. So if you are traveling with a group this would be ideal.

The Courtyard Villas are out of this world. If this is the accommodation you choose, you will have your own butler as well as your own piano, a hot tub, a silver toothbrush holder, they measure 5000 square feet, a private sun deck, and a fantastic central courtyard with a retractable roof. In addition to this how would it sound if you had your own Stairmaster, your own pool and hot tub and so much more? If it sounds like a dream, you will find that dream a reality on the Norwegian Dream.

Dining

The Jewel boasts 10 dining rooms for your enjoyment, but it would be wise to book at the beginning of your cruise to avoid waiting. At the Teppanyaki and Le Bistro, there is a $10.00 to $15.00 cover charge, but it well worth the extra money. There is a good selection of wine, sodas and 20 different kinds of water offered. There is also 24 hour room service to all accommodations.

The two main restaurants on this ship are Tsar’s Palace and Azura. Both of them serve lunch and dinner menus where “light” menus are always available. The Azure is a smaller restaurant and is more intimate than the others, but the menus are the same. Both of these are decorated in gorgeous colours and furnishings. Try the Captains Gala Dinner menu, which is lobster tails and there is no cover charge on this one.

You will find the Blue Lagoon a wonderful food court overlooking an atrium. This is another option for breakfast and if you order the “Full House “ it will just about cover anything you want for breakfast. Then at lunch you can try their burgers, fish and chips or one of the other traditional meals that is served there.

Cagney’s Steakhouse serves up all kinds of steaks, while the Chin Chin serves all types of Asian food. At Mama’s Italian Kitchen you can put together your own pizza and the staff will cook it for you. At Java Café, you can experience different types of coffee for free and at the Tango Tex-Mex you can enjoy a margarita or hot and cold Tapas.

Entertainment

The biggest decision you will have on the Jewel is choosing what you are going to do next. Boredom on this ship is in the past. Daytime activities include such things as foreign language, cooking and dancing classes, trivia contest, lectures on handwriting and Jamaica, perfume seminars, bingo, art auctions, arts and crafts, volleyball, tennis, ping pong and human chess play.

The Stardust is the main nightly entertainment with Broadway productions, Vegas style productions, comedy and magic acts and a fearless troupe of acrobats and aerialists that are breathtaking to watch. In addition to this, there are pianists and live guitar music at different venues. You will love the late night sock hops that take place on this ship. There is also disco dancing and a Caribbean party. Try the FYZZ room, where there are different coloured karaoke rooms which can be rented privately for $40.00 an hour.

There are 13 Bars and Lounges here which includes a Champagne and wine bar, martini bar and a whiskey and beer bar. If this is not your thing for an evening’s fun, then try the Jewel Club Casino, where you can try your luck at one of the many tables and slot machines.

This ship has two main pools and they are very busy. It also has four whirlpools, colourful awnings, and a bright attractive waterslide for the kids. For those of you that want to keep fit, there is the Body Waves Fitness Centre, which is well stocked in equipment and with ocean views from every angle. The Bora Bora Health Spa and Beauty Salon is a very tranquil place to just relax and be pampered.

Other options for fitness include jogging, walking, a sports deck with bleachers and two golf driving nets. This ship welcomes families and kids and rolls out the red carpet for them. There is a Kid’s Crew program that will please any kid with its activities. Group babysitting is available throughout the cruise. There is one formal evening per cruise and the rest is casual dress all the way. Passengers are charged $10.00 per day, per person for tips, but this includes everything.
