Silver Shadow Description

Silver Shadow

With 7 decks, the Silver Shadow can carry a total of 382 passengers, making it the largest of the Silversea fleet. This is an all-suite cruise ship, with all kinds of frills and amenities to delight you. This is one cruise where no gratuities are charged and none are expected. This means you don’t have to pay anything extra when you disembark – just carry the extra money you might need for shore excursions. There are two formal nights on this cruise and for the rest of the voyage, the dress code is semi-formal or casual. It is not a cruise for children as there are no children’s programs provided. The typical age of passengers on this ship is 40 and up.

Accommodations

With every stateroom designed as a suite, you will have plenty of room to stretch and unwind. Of the 194 staterooms, 159 have balcony, but the remainder does have an ocean view. The majority of suites measure 345 square feet, but you can also have larger suites depending on your budget all the way up to the Grand Suite at over 1000 square feet. All feature walk-in closets, a sitting area, a desk, hair dryer a refrigerator and an entertainment unit. The bathrooms are quite roomy boasting a full bathtub and separate shower, complete with towels and amenities. The beds convert from twin to queen and everyday brings a different arrangement of fresh fruit and flowers to your room.

Dining

It is impossible to say enough about the superb dining experience you will have onboard the Silver Shadow. No matter which restaurant you choose – the Restaurant, the Terrace or the Le Champagne – the food is of the highest quality and the service is incomparable. The menu choices will leave you entranced and you will have a difficult time deciding what you want to eat each night. Choose Pacific salmon pan-fried meat, crab, soups, salads and a mind-boggling array of desserts. You will have the same difficulty deciding what to eat for lunch as there is a different menu with loads of choices. Open seating is the norm and if you wish to have a table for two, you should request it. Wine is readily available at every meal and drinks are free for the duration of the cruise. Room service is available 24 hours a day and the menus are pretty much the same as in the restaurants.

Entertainment

In the main show lounge, the Athenian, there is seating for more passengers than the ship can carry so you will have plenty of room to enjoy the shows and lectures offered here. There are two other lounges, the Panorama and the observation, where you can have a drink and enjoy the view or if you prefer a smoke, then head to the Cigar Bar. The casino is really small and the machines are crammed into a small space. The usual line up of activities takes place during the day, such as bridge tournaments, backgammon and needlepoint classes. The fitness center is small, mainly because the usual line up of passengers tends to be older. The spa is luxurious and offers just about any kind of massage or treatment you can name. A golf net is set up during the day, where you can take lessons from a pro. Since this is not a cruise designed for families, there are no children’s programs provided.

On a ten-day voyage, there are two formal nights where the men wear tuxedos and the women wear fancy dresses. For the rest of the cruise, the dress code is semi-formal or casual.
