Silver Wind Description

Silver Wind

Built in 1984 and refurbished in 2002, the Silver Wind is a classic example of less is more. This is the smallest cruise ship to feature suites with verandahs. Here the crew will socialize with the passengers and will be able to call you by name, making for a really personal cruise experience. No gratuities are charged or expected on this ship and all wines and drinks are included in your fare. You will be pleased with the friendly atmosphere onboard and although there are no programs for children, you still may seem some on the ship. In this case the parents are expected to provide the entertainment for the children.

Accommodations

The Silver Wind boasts only outside cabins. Of the 148 suites, 114 of which have verandahs. All of the suites have a king size bed that can easily convert to twin beds if requested. There is a separate sitting area, walk-in closets and a marble bathroom with a bathtub. There are mini-fridges that are restocked twice a day. Although there are televisions in the suites, the channel selection is limited. There is a VCR and you can borrow tapes from the library. The more expensive suites include a plasma TV as well as a separate dining room.

Dining

Join with your fellow passengers in a heavenly dining experience onboard the Silver Wind. The Restaurant, the main dining room, features open seating and mouth - watering food selections on the menu. Indulge in a different dish for each night of the cruise. Chefs from a network of exclusive inns and hotels prepare the menus, with which you will not find any fault. Seasonal menus are available at the alternative restaurant, the La Scaletta. At the Terrace Café, you can enjoy buffet style breakfast and lunch, but at night this venue is transformed into themed cuisines from all over the world. The 24-hour room service has more variety on the menu than you will find on most other cruise ships and once per cruise, you can take part in the brunch buffet, served in the Terrace Café.

Entertainment

With its small size, the public rooms on the ship are quite comfortable. Just about all of the daily action takes place in the Panorama Lounge, which is the perfect place to view the beautiful sea vistas. The Bar flows into the two decks of the Show Lounge and the well-stocked library has comfy chairs that you can curl up in. Keep in touch with friends at the Internet station or enjoy a game of cards in the Card Room.

The activities onboard the Silver Wind are low-key, but you can wile away the days playing golf, learning about the ports of call or learn the art of wine tasting. There are a variety of entertainment acts in the evenings such as Broadway vocalists, live music and movies.

Keep in shape at the gym with varied pieces of exercise equipment. The spa is one place where you can get pampered, although it does seem to be shortstaffed.

This is not a ship for families on vacation as there are no programs for children. Although most of the passengers tend to dress casually, there are formal nights when you are expected to dress up – really dress up – tuxedoes for the men and cocktail dresses for the women.
