The Sun Princess was launched back in 1995. At that time it took the lead in the biggest ship in this fleet, but from then to now the Sun is considered a mid size ship with bigger ships coming into the fleet. However, this ship has what it takes to attract people to take a cruise on this gem. On the Sun Princess you get big ship choices with a small ship feeling. This ship sports a handsome ambience that you will only get on a smaller ship. It offers Personal Choice Dining or traditional - whichever you prefer. You will have to watch for line ups for some things where the ship is small and carries as many passengers as some of her sister ships. The Sun offers 11 decks to explore and a crew of 900 to see to your every need.
Accommodations
The Sun boasts a total of 975 accommodations of which 38 are Suites with balconies, 372 with balconies and an ocean view, 193 with an ocean view and no balconies and 372 inside cabins. All the cabins are standard size and the only difference in inside cabins and outside cabins is the porthole windows.
The standard cabin comes with good lighting and two twin beds that convert to a queen. There is a desk that can become a breakfast table when necessary and there is ample closet and drawer room. You will also find a room safe as well as a mini fridge and television. All bathrooms in the cabins have showers, but in the suites there are tubs with whirlpools. They also have a sitting area and a separate bedroom.
Dining
The Regency Dining Room offers a fixed time for dinner, but open seating for breakfast and lunch. The Marquis Dining Room is open from 5:30 until 10:00 pm. The Horizon Court has access to two other buffet stations and additional buffets are available in the main room or you can try an on deck barbeque at Trident Grill.
Horizon’s is open 24 hours a day. Verdi’s Pizzeria is open for lunch and in the evening it becomes a casual trattoria with a limited menu. Sterling Steakhouse is available with a exciting menu. This has a surcharge of $15.00 which is worth every cent to dine here. There is a 24 hour room service which has a good selection of cold and hot foods.
Entertainment
This ship has three bars which are the Rendezvous Bar where they sell wine, caviar and pate, the Atrium Bar where you can listen to classical music or Broadway tunes played by a string Quartet and the Wheelhouse bar where you can listen to rock music while you sip on a cool one.
This ship truly has something for everyone when it comes to entertainment . You can find all your favourite games and contests during the day and you will find a small library if you want to snuggle away with a book for the afternoon.
There is the Grand Casino which will keep you entertained for hours. The new Internet Café has 22 stations available for those who need to use them, but there is a charge of .35 cents. You can also see two nightly shows at the Princess Theatre. The Sun Lounge offers the same while at the Vista lounge you will find a cabaret act such as jugglers and comedians.
On the main deck there are two central pools and the third is a splash pool for the kiddies. The aft portion of the Sun deck is for things like shuffleboard and on the other part you will find things like a golf simulator and quoits. The Lotus Spa will take care of all your needs in massages and there is a beauty salon to take care of your hair needs. The fitness room has a good selection of exercise equipment to help you stay fit during your trip.
Sun Princess welcomes families on this ship and has many programs aboard that will keep the little ones busy including their Fun Zone. Group babysitting is available, but private babysitting is not offered.
There are two formal nights per cruise but other than that the dress code is very casual. There is a $10.00 per person per day tipping charge and this covers everything but the spa where you can tip at your own discretion and the bar bill which is usually 15 percent of the tab.
