The Wind Spirit is a cruise ship that carries just 150 passengers, but it does not short change the passengers in any way. With beautiful white sails billowing in the breeze, you can take a cruise to one of several destinations – the Eastern Caribbean, Eastern and Western Mediterranean and across the Atlantic. With open seating and casual attire, you can feel as free as the wind when you’re cruising along. Leave your stresses behind as you bond with your fellow passengers and take part in activities you wouldn’t be able to find on a traditional cruise.
Accommodations
The cabins are all of the same size – 188 sqaure feet- and are all laid out in the same manner. They are all outside cabins with potholes and some of them are interconnecting or have two baths. Each one has a TV, VCR and CD player and a mini-bar that is restocked on a daily basis. There is also a safe in each cabin and the bathrooms are quite roomy. However, you do have to sit on the bed as there is not room enough for an armchair.
Dining
Dine on the delicacies of chef Joachim Splichal of Patina Restaurant fame. Within the past year more than 100 new recipes have been added to the already outstanding food. Each dinner features a chef’s recommendation and if you are watching your weight, you can choose from the Sail Light menu. The Verandah Café features sit down meals for breakfast and lunch and there is an omelet station. Early risers can have breakfast at 6 a.m. on the aft deck. There is afternoon tea each day and for those that like to eat late at night there is a 24 hour menu.
Entertainment
If you like to read, the Wind Spirit does have a small library and there is a collection of VCR tapes that you can borrow at no extra charge. If you want to keep in touch with home via email, you can do so, but it is quite expensive. Have a drink at the bar or dance to the music in the Lounge, try your luck at the tables in the casino or enjoy the spectacular views from the Verandah. Enjoy a massage or have your hair done, but there is no traditional spa on this ship.
Just before dinner each evening there are hostess talks in the Lounge where you will learn exciting things about the next port of call. There is a decide lack of planned activities on this ship and no large scale productions. However, this does give the passengers time to chat and get to know one another. The atmosphere is one of rest and relaxation.
If you want to continue with your exercises, there is a small fitness center with some exercise equipment. The highlight of the activities is the watersports when the staff bring out all kinds of water toys, such as kayaks and banana boats for you to try.
There are no programs for children and in fact, parents are discouraged from bringing children on this cruise. The average age of the passengers is generally between 35 and 50.
